Daniel joined Southdale in February 2008 as a bricklaying apprentice on a development in Hull. At the time the company was working with Probe - a local Hull-based employment and training initiative.
To make the apprenticeship possible, a partnership was agreed between Southdale and a local bricklaying subcontractor DPJ Brickworks. Funding from Probe and the CITB has helped to support Daniel’s apprenticeship over the last two years.
Daniel is currently studying for his NVQ Level 2 at Hull College and hopes to enrol for Year 3 in September 2010. It is a testament to Daniel’s commitment that during last year when work in Hull was put on hold, he travelled to another of our developments in York relying on public transport and the generosity of his colleagues giving him lifts.
Throughout this period Daniel’s attendance both at work and college were a credit to him and he continued to contribute 100%.
Daniel is a good ambassador for Southdale Ltd and assists us in promoting the apprenticeship scheme both internally and externally. Daniel recently represented Southdale Ltd at an event in Hull when the Minister for Yorkshire and the Humber, Rosie Winterton visited our development and was keen to hear his views on being an apprentice.
"I really enjoy working with an experienced construction team, it feels like I’m part of a family here on site."
