Yorkshire-based construction and development specialist Southdale are celebrating no less than four award nominations and one award win at this year’s Local Authority Building Control Awards – Yorkshire and Humber.
The Southdale team joined scores of other building firms on 14thApril 2011 at the Forest Pines Hotel in Scunthorpe to congratulate high achievers and share best practice across the industry. The Southdale sites which received a Highly Commended Award were Greencroft in Rotherham, a high quality new build development of 17 sustainable houses for Chevin Housing Group, Camberwell Way in Hull, a new build development of 51 homes which was also for Chevin Housing Group and finally Norfolk Park in Sheffield, a new build development of 41 units for Places for People.
Overall winner for Southdale was Eldon Road in Rotherham which achieved Best Sustainable Project for the new build of three properties which were built to Code for Sustainable Homes Levels 3, 4 and 5. This affordable development was constructed in partnership with Synergy and Chevin Housing Group and was sponsored by Rotherham MBC. The collaboration which existed between all partners together with additional funding from Rotherham helped drive the success of this scheme resulting in highly sought after residential properties which help reduce carbon emissions by relying on a range of sustainable and renewable technologies such as solar heating, photo voltaic roof panels, rainwater harvesting and mechanical heat recovery systems.
Every year this prestigious awards ceremony, which is organised by the following local authorities; Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham, Sheffield, Hull and North Lincolnshire, pays homage to the high levels of quality achieved in the construction of new homes, extensions, alterations and commercial developments by a range of developers across Yorkshire and the Humber.
The awards are testament to the industry’s commitment to demonstrating the codes of best practice - which is helping to raise overall standards of quality across the sector.
Regional Director for Southdale, Trudie McCormick said: “I am delighted to congratulate our site managers for all their hard work; Terry Wray for Camberwell Way, Keith Richards for Norfolk Park, Greg Parkinson for Greencroft and Brendan Fajt for Eldon Road which was the winner of the Best Sustainable Project. Our recognition from these prestigious awards goes some way to demonstrating our commitment to delivering high quality and sustainable developments which meet both client and end user needs.”
