Case StudyCase Study

Brig Royd, Ripponden, Halifax

Brig Royd is a state-of-the-art medical centre in the village of Ripponden, West Yorkshire. We developed this £2.1 million project in collaboration with Apollo Capital Projects, local GPs and Calderdale’s Primary Care Trust.

We delivered this project working with a a complex development programme on a site adjacent to a busy main road and existing residential dwellings.

  • We worked with the design team and the clients, incorporating their needs into achievable, realistic and buildable solutions
  • We designed the complicated roof and steel frame structure to fully accommodate and make best use of the space for the proposed reception/waiting area atrium feature
  • This large, airy open space is central to the customer experience and provides a connecting point for access to medical consultation, reception services and the integrated pharmacy.

As a requirement for sustainable renewable provisions, we installed an Air Source heat pump. This pump supplements the building’s ambient heating requirements and also saves energy.

In addition, we provided internal lighting to public, private and communal areas which could be controlled by passive sensors.

Practice Nurses, the Practice Manager and Doctors were consulted and actively encouraged to take part in decision-making, especially on the use of space, layout of consulting rooms and surgeries and colour schemes.

We are justifiably proud of Brig Royd Medical Centre. It was completed on time, within budget and to the complete satisfaction of clients, staff and service users.
